Welcome !

Welcome to Pack 169! We were charterd in October 1961. Our Charter Organization is the Alexander City First United Methodist Church.

The history of Alexander City First United Methodist Church reads like a journey of faith in bibilical times. Out of the wilderness of a former Creek Indian village, a group of Southerners defeated by the Civil War, gathered together in a bush arbor for a two-week revival lead by Reverend W.T. Pattello. On August 16, 1872 the Methodist followers were organized into the Youngsville Methodist Church and by the following year were renamed Alexander City Methodist Church.

The first building was soon erected for worship on Green Street and shared alternating services with the Baptist until 1879. A red brick building replaced this wooden structure in 1895, only to be completely destroyed by the great fire on black Friday, June 13, 1902. The devastating fire left the town, church building and parsonage in rubble. The hero spirit of the members resurfaced as a beautiful brick Romanesque Revival style church rose out of the ashes in 1906.

The church withstood the Great Depression with creative valor, only to grieve for the casualties of two World Wars. The building programs in the 1950's were needed to accommodate the large crowds of youth as the good times rolled. Soon troubled times resurfaced in the 1960's with the social upheaval of the Civil Rights movement. The 1970's and 1980's brought building additions when the membership doubled in size to 1400 members.

First Church prepared for its 125th anniversary in 1997 by renovating its sanctuary and building a family life center, called the Arbor. As the years pass, the Arbor is a spiritual beacon for the community's young and old. Members now face challenges in the 21st century as the journey of faith continues for Alexander City First United Methodist Church.
